  • San Bernardino Supervisor's Office San Bernardino, CA United States (map)

Join the Fisheries Resource Volunteer Corps (FRVC) for a stream patrol on Bear Creek! This beautiful creek is home to a population of wild rainbow trout and is a popular spot for fishing, camping, and hiking. Bear Creek is one of the most remote streams in the San Bernardino National Forest and offers a unique opportunity to explore a pristine wilderness area while making a difference in preserving it.

Physical Difficulty: Strenuous - Must be able to hike up to 8 miles on trail with rocky terrain. The trail may be steep in places and can be slippery when wet. Some stream crossings may be required. Altitude can reach up to 8000 ft.

Directions to FRVC Shed: The FRVC Shed for Bear Creek is located at the Big Bear Discovery Center. Take the 38 freeway to Big Bear Lake, turn on North Shore Drive, continue on North Shore Drive until it turns into Discovery Center Drive. The Big Bear Discovery Center is on the left-hand side of the road.

Patrol Access Point & Boundaries: To reach the trailhead for the Bear Creek patrol, park at the Discovery Center parking lot and take the trail that starts behind the center. The patrol is a hiking patrol that covers up to 8 miles, depending on the abilities of the patrol participants. The patrol is focused on the Bear Creek above the confluence with the Santa Ana River.

Angler Survey Box & Fishing Regulations: There is one angler survey box at the Bear Creek trailhead. At the present time, there are no special fishing regulations on Bear Creek, however, that may change, once the management plan is implemented for this Wild and Heritage Trout Stream.

Please note that this patrol is actively recruiting volunteers to join before scheduling the next patrol date and subject to changes, please get in touch with the patrol leader before attending.
