Staffing - San Gabriel Canyon Gateway Center

Are you interested in helping the public enjoy the Forest? On the 2nd and 4th weekend of the month, FRVC staffs the San Gabriel Canyon Gateway, providing information to the public and selling Adventure Passes/America the Beautiful Passes. As families and individuals enter the San Gabriel Canyon, they stop at the Gateway to get the latest updates and ask questions. It is the perfect time to talk to visitors about Leave No Trace, where to fish, where to find water play, the best hikes in the area, etc. If you are interested in working with the public and have some time to volunteer, get in touch.

Join Fisheries Resource Volunteer Corps (FRVC) for a stream patrol on the West Fork of the San Gabriel River! This scenic stream is home to a population of wild rainbow trout and is a popular spot for fishing, camping, and hiking.

Physical Difficulty: Moderate - Must be able to hike 2 to 4 miles on trail with rocky terrain. The trail may be steep in places and can be slippery when wet. Some stream crossings may be required.

Directions to FRVC Shed: The FRVC Shed for the West Fork of the San Gabriel River is located at the West Fork Ranger Station. Take the 210 Fwy to Azusa. Exit North on Azusa Avenue, which turns into San Gabriel Canyon Road. Continue North up the canyon for 18 miles to the West Fork Ranger Station.

Patrol Access Point & Boundaries: To reach the trailhead for the West Fork patrol, park at the West Fork Ranger Station and take the trail that starts at the station. The patrol is a hiking patrol that covers 2 to 4 miles, depending on the abilities of the patrol participants. The patrol is focused on the mile section above the confluence with the North Fork of the San Gabriel River.

Angler Survey Box & Fishing Regulations: There is one angler survey box at the West Fork Ranger Station. At the present time, there are no special fishing regulations on the West Fork of the San Gabriel River, however, that may change, once the management plan is implemented for this Wild and Heritage Trout Stream.

It is the perfect time to talk to visitors about Leave No Trace, where to fish, where to find water play, the best hikes in the area, etc. If you are interested in working with the public and have some time to volunteer, get in touch.
